As National Volunteer Week wraps up, we spoke with Ronnie Patel, a project manager with Ceridian, about his role supporting student entrepreneurs as a volunteer business mentor with The Learning Partnership’s Dragons’ Nest program.
Q. Tell us a bit about yourself and your background.
Throughout my career, I have worked in several roles in the software development and project life cycle primarily in client-facing roles. For the past 12 years, I have been involved in system implementations. I am a graduate of Western University in both electrical engineering and computer science.
Q. What is your role like as a business mentor?
It’s been a lot of fun. Guiding students and offering advice has been fulfilling and rewarding.
Q. Why did you get involved as a business mentor?
I have always been very interested in giving back to my local community. However, this is the first opportunity that I have been able to offer by business experience.
Q. What have you gotten out of the program?
It’s been really great to see my advice being used and to see that the kids are really interested in applying their ideas to a real-world application.
Did you know? Ronnie considers himself to be a risk-taker, and has gone skydiving, tree-top trekking and run multiple marathons!
